Traditionally, mpox has been considered a viral zoonotic disease endemic in Central and West Africa and caused by the mpox virus (mpoxv). The 2022 multi-country outbreak, the largest described so far, changed this scenario and mpox became a global concern of public health. As consequence, the number of mpoxv whole genome sequences available from diverse geographical locations have notably increased. The present study includes deep sequencing from a mpox skin lesion before and after passaging in BSC-1 cells, and sequences from different mpoxv clones isolated from skin lesions.
