Replication Data for: Stirring the Populist Tide: Campaign Rhetoric and Electoral Choices in the 2022 Korean Presidential Election

This file describes the replication materials for Sunkyoung Park and Yongwoo Jeung, "Stirring the Populist Tide: Campaign Rhetoric and Electoral Choices in the 2022 Korean Presidential Election". All analyses were carried out using Stata/SE version 19.5 for Windows (64 bit). 1. Stata .do files: "0_command_for_recoding.do" : a do-file to recode the raw version of the master data. "0_command_for_analysis.do" : a do-file to replicate all empirical results. 2. Data files: "1_master_data.dta" : raw version of the master data file which contains NVM fundings and election outcomes at the township level, before recoded. "1_master_data_recoded.dta" : recoded data file for empirical analysis. "1_master_data_INV_only.dta" : a recoded data file with a main independent variable only to merge with survey data. You don't need this file if you use the recorded data. "2_residential_satisfaction_survey.dta" : raw version of the Residential Satisfaction Survey data (conducted by KREI), merged with NVM fundings. "2_residential_satisfaction_survey_recoded.dta" : recoded data file for empirical analysis. "3_rural_village_survey.dta" : raw version of the Rural Village Survey data (conducted by KREI), merged with NVM fundings. "3_rural_village_survey_recoded.dta" : recoded data file for empirical analysis. "4_korean_identity_survey.dta" : the Korean Identity Survey (conducted by the East Asia Institute), merged with NVM fundings. "4_korean_identity_survey_recoded.dta" : recoded data file for empirical analysis. 3. Log file: "5_result_log.text" 4. Codebook: "6_Codebook.pdf" - a codebook for the all four data files. ------------------------------------ Information on Data Sources ------------------------------------ 1. Data Source for master data. Master data include NVM funding, election results, population census, agricultural census and night-time luminosity data. (1) NVM fuding data are from the Statistical Yearbook of Saemaul, published by the Ministry of Home Affairs. The hardcopy of the book is only available in the National Assembly Library of Korea and no electronic access is available. (2) Election data come from the National Election Commission. Any interestred users can download all Korean election results from http://info.nec.go.kr/ (3) Population and Agricultural Census data come from the National Census data, which is electrionically available in Statistics Korea from http://kosis.kr .
