Share of opened and closed restaurants India August 2020, by city

As of August 2020, around 30 percent of dining out restaurants in Kolkata were open for business. By contrast, over 90 percent of restaurants in Chennai remained closed, although there was no lockdown imposed in this city during the respective month. India went into a strict, nationwide lockdown from the end of March to the end of May 2020. By August, the mentioned five big cities had allowed dining restaurants in general to operate.
