Whole-genome sequencing of bacteriocin-producing Escherichia coli Q5 and Escherichia coli C41 strains with probiotic properties

Commensal bacteriocin-produsing E. coli strains are of interest in the possibility of selective control over the spread of pathogenic bacteria and can be used as probiotics. Here we sequenced two new bacteriocin-producing strains Escherichia coli Q5 (VKM B-3706D) and Escherichia coli C41 (VKM B-3707D) isolated from healthy farm animals. The analysis of complete genomes obtained by long-read sequencing using the Oxford Nanopore Technology (MinION) allowed screening of genes of concern, as well as identifying genes of factors responsible for the antagonistic and colonization ability of E. coli Q5 and E. coli C41.
