This dataset is constructed using sea ice GPS observations (1979–2019) sourced from the International Arctic Buoy Program (IABP). High-frequency sea ice velocity fields were computed and standardized, yielding 2194 valid data files comprising over 2.7 million data points. IABP buoys are affixed to sea ice and drift along with the ice pack; changes in the buoys' positional coordinates directly reflect the movement trajectories of the sea ice. The associated horizontal position data are transmitted and collected via either the Argos or GPS satellite systems, with respective geographic positioning accuracies of 300 m and 100 m for the two positioning methods.
