The UPGRES project focuses on integrating biotechnological, thermochemical, and catalytic transformations, including innovative technologies like dark fermentation, microalgae production, hydrothermal carbonization and liquefaction, and aqueous-phase reforming. It also aims to minimize environmental impact by developing efficient oxidation-based decontamination processes and low-cost, partially renewable catalysts using porous carbon from hydrochars. Additionally, the project seeks to reduce GHG emissions, prevent contaminated liquid waste, and minimize solid waste generation, ensuring that the fuels and chemicals produced are truly sustainable
