资源简介:
Background:Many adolescents and young people (AYP) who need sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services encounter personal-level and contextual barriers. An intervention sought to increase the access of AYP’saccess to SRH services by incorporating youth-friendly SRH service units into the Public Healthcare Centres (PHCs) in two communities in Lagos. Methods:Using client records in the PHCs over a period of 4 months, this analysis documents use of the facilities by AYP and explains the factors that determine use of specific services. Results:We found more female users than male users. Female adolescents were also more likely to mention pregnancy and family planning related issues as their main reason for visiting while male adolescents are more likely to mention HIV counselling and testing as their main reason for visiting. Use of SRH counselling and services increases consistently with age. The study also found that AYP are more likely to use SRH services during re-visits than first visits. Conclusions:We recommend that intervention programme managers should target sub-populations of AYP with information on the need to use those services they are typically not likely to use.<br>
