We have isolated a C. tyzzeri isolate of the IXa subtype family from mice with natural infection and established an immunocompetent mouse model of cryptosporidiosis with high oocyst shedding intensity and long oocyst shedding duration. The infection patterns in laboratory mice differ significantly from those generated with IXb, C. parvum IIa, and C. parvum IId isolates. Therefore, we conducted comparative genomics and transcriptome analyses to unravel what underlies these biological differences.
