Characterizing the X-ray properties of a new intriguing binary system

PSR J172328 may represent the second known case (after PSR J1023+0038;Archibald et al. 2009, Science) of a justformed baby.. millisecond pulsar.That provides unprecedented possibilities for investigating the last stages ofthe socalled recycling process.. and the related activation of a millisecondpulsar. In the framework of a large multiwavelength campaign, we request here a55 ks exposure (thus sampling a full orbit of PSR J172328) in order to: (i)firmly establishing the Xray counterpart to the binary; (ii) investigating thenature of the Xray emission; (iii) constraining the distribution of plasma inthe system and the geometry of the Xray emission, thanks to the comparision ofthe variability simultaneously observed in the Xray emission and in the pulsed radio emission. truncated!, Please see actual data for full text [truncated!, Please see actual data for full text]
