Lou Bopp is a commercial photographer from St. Louis. He is based in St. Louis and New York, but frequently travels the world with his work. During an internship in London in 1989, Bopp was traveling in Europe during the fall of the Berlin Wall. Photos he took there generated interest in his work and helped him decide to become a professional photographer. After returning to St. Louis, he worked as a stringer for the Associated Press before getting an internship with Sports Illustrated in New York. His time there brought him various freelance opportunities with major publications such as Vanity Fair, People Magazine, and others. His regular clients included Dan Rather, General Norman Schwarzkopf, and the New York City Marathon. One of his more famous images is of blues musician Jimmy ?Duck? Holmes which is featured on the Mississippi Bicentennial First class stamp issued by the U.S. Postal Service in 2017. As of 2021, Bopp remains an active photographer working with a wide variety of clients including national corporations, news agencies, and organizations such as Microsoft, Walmart, Capital One, CBS, CNN, and Boy Scouts of America.

The Lou Bopp Collection includes 129 digital photographs. All were created in St. Louis during the 2020 Covid-19 pandemic and reflect many of the various experiences of people living through the stay-at-home order, testing for the disease, wearing protective gear, and implementing the practices used to continue or resume working and socializing. The collection includes forty-three images from Bopp's series Portraits of Mandated Isolation. This series was a project Bopp created during the stay at home order to photograph his subjects either through windows or from a distance in order to capture the feeling of being isolated from the larger world during quarantine. The remaining eighty-six photos depict Covid-19- related images including testing sites for the disease, nurses and medical workers, food banks, protections in place at various businesses open for operation, and shots of people in their protective masks and gear.
