Strain BJGMM-B45T, which was isolated from a saline-alkali soil collected from China, was a novel Gram-negative, aerobic, rod-shaped, non-motile and moderately halophilic bacterium. It can grow at NaCl concentrations ranging from 1-20 % (w/v) on lactic-bacteria agar medium. It was desirable to obtain the genomic sequence of a Halomonas strain able to survive in a hypersaline environment. The information provided by this draft genome sequence here will facilitate future studies on the genetic and metabolic diversity of halophilic bacteria and contribute to the understanding of important processes such as osmoadaptation and ectoine, polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA), poly(3-hydroxybutyrate) (PHB) and exopolysaccharide biosynthesis. It might also give some new insights into investigating the role of the quorum-sensing regulatory system in the adaptation of high salinities in hypersaline environment.
