Digital Archive from Archaeological Works at the A1 between Morpeth and Ellingham, Northumberland, June 2022

This collection comprises images, site records, reports, spreadsheets, and databases from an earthwork survey, a strip, map and sample scheme, and a landscape survey undertaken in advance of construction groundworks associated with improvements to the A1 between Morpeth and Ellingham in Northumberland. This work was undertaken by Northern Archaeological Associates in June 2022. Archaeological investigations within Area 3 recovered evidence of an Iron Age settlement. Investigations within Area 4 revealed evidence for activity of a likely Iron Age date including three pits and part of an enclosure complex or field system that contained evidence for iron smelting and smithing.
