Candidatus Tremblaya phenacola PSOL Genome sequencing and assembly

The cotton mealybug Phenacoccus solenopsis (Hemiptera: Pseudococcidae) is a phloem-sucking agricultural pest. Like other sap-feeding insects, it needs endosymbionts to provide essential amino acids that are scarce in their diet. To find out what endosymbionts P. solenopsis have and how they coordinate with their host, we dissected bacteriomes from 150 female adults and constructed a pair-end library. We de novo assembled the symbiont genome from the sequencing data and proved that it is a beta-proteobacterium, named Tremblaya phenacola PSOL.
