Manuscript in pencil in Ivor Gurney's hand being a draft of a poem titled 'Tobacco the weed', later renamed 'Solace of Men' and published in War's Embers (1919). Gurney wrote two other poems on the subject: 'Tobacco' and 'Tobacco Plant'. This is from a small green notebook used by Gurney during July-August 1918.
