We paired eDNA metabarcoding and beach seining surveys of nearshore fishes on the coast of British Columbia to assess how environmental conditions at differing spatial scales influence richness and turnover estimates. Our findings provide much needed clarification on the spatial scales at which eDNA metabarcoding can be used to make ecological inferences.
