Also known as Cordyceps sinensis, caterpillar fungus, Dong Chong Xia Cao in Chinese, yartsa gumba in Nepal, it is well-known as a Chinese traditional medicine. It has received world-wide attention for its pharmaceutical potential and known as "Himalayan viagra" or "Himalayan gold". The fungus grows in the pastures above 3,300 meters up to 4,000 meters in the Himalayan regions. Despite its increasing high market price, the biology of this fungus remains a mystery.
