Gut microbiota dynamics by cholecystectomy

Laparoscopic cholecystectomy is the preferred treatment for gallstone disease, but post-cholecystectomy diarrhea (PCD) remains a concern. While bile acid malabsorption is a known contributor to PCD, alterations in gut microbiota are also thought to play a significant role. Long-term follow-up studies have shown a decline in PCD cases over time, suggesting that changes in gut microbiota may be time-dependent, a factor that has not been thoroughly explored. This study aimed to investigate gut microbiota and PCD symptoms at various time points to understand their time-dependent characteristics better.
