Bacillus sp. BD59S Genome sequencing

Bacillus thuringiensis as a Gram-positive soil bacterium, is a member of the B. cereus group. Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) possesses crystal like parasporal proteinaceous inclusions which have unique and selective biocidal activities on different insects, nematodes and human cancer cells. The project study was conducted to identify parasporin genes and in vitro anticancer activity of parasporal proteins of Bt strains identified from different regions of Bangladesh. Bacillus thuringiensis strain BD59S produces three different sizes parasporal proteins and trypsinized active cry proteins from this Bt strain showed strong cytotoxic activity against the HeLa cell line. The project of complete genome sequence of Bacillus sp. BD59S was therefore undertaken to reveal potential insights of the organism.
