A3112: Deep High-Resolution Spectroscopy of a Cooling Flow Cluster

XMMNewton and Chandra observations imply some mechanism acting on hundreds ofkpc scales feeds energy into the cluster gas and inhibits large cooling gasinfalls into the central cD galaxy. Although many Xray observations have beenperformed at CCD resolution, only a handful have taken advantage of the uniquecapabilities of the RGS to do diffuse highresolution spectroscopy. We propose ahigh signal to noise (180 ksec) RGS observation of A3112, whose properties makeit an ideal target for studying heating models. By measuring the centroids andshapes of the strong lines from O and the Fe Lshell, as well as emission from Cand N features and searching for Fe XVII and fluorescence lines we willdetermine the physical characteristics in the cool core of A3112. truncated!, Please see actual data for full text [truncated!, Please see actual data for full text]
