Non-Indigenous Canadians’ moral expectations of Indigenous peoples

Non-Indigenous Canadian university students read a brief passage about the harms of the Indian Residential School (IRS) system, then wrote about the meaning derived from the IRSs for Canadians (condition 1), the meaning derived for Indigenous peoples (condition 2), or they were not asked to write about the meaning of the IRSs (control). Respondents then completed survey measures assessing perceived benefit-finding for victims of the IRSs, perceived moral obligations for Indigenous peoples in light of historical victimization, and modern racism. Basic demographic information was also assessed.
