Using the full-length zinc protease gene (znpA, 1,227 bp) from type strains and clinical isolates of <i>Fusobacterium nucleatum</i>, <i>Fusobacterium hwasookii</i> (FH), and <i>Fusobacterium periodonticum</i> (FP), we reconstructed a phylogenetic tree. The resulting analysis robustly places strain PK1595 within the <i>F. hwasookii</i> lineage, rather than in the <i>F. nucleatum</i> group where it had previously been classified.
