West Midlands Bus User Profile Survey 2018

The survey was designed to capture a representative profile of travel habits and socio-economic characteristics of bus users throughout the West Midlands. The survey provides:

i) The profile of bus users in terms of main journey purpose, age, gender, occupation, working status, type of employment, ethnicity, car ownership, car availability and Mosaic profile.

ii) Travel characteristics in terms of frequency of travel, usual travel times, longevity of use, mode of travel to stops, presence of bus shelter at bus stops, average journey time to bus stop, wait time and length of bus journey.

iii) Potential effects of bus delays on bus journeys and on travel habits.

iv) Number of buses used to get to destination.

v) Choice of bus operators on route and proportion of trips made on NXWM buses on routes with multiple operators.

vi) Level of Metro and rail use on usual journey and opinion of bus access to Metro and rail stations.

vii) Ticket type tendered and awareness of low fare zones

viii) Main reasons for bus use

ix) Changes and opinion of bus travel over the last 12 months.

x) Sources of bus information to plan a journey and when on a journey.

xi) Use of Social Media and Smartphone access.
