WinRoot

WinRoot
is a user friendly GUI (Graphical User Interface) program (developed in C programming
language with the aid of the Windows API - Application Programming Interface), which
makes it possible to open an image file (scan) of a root, implement segmentation
and skeletonization of the image, and then perform counting of intersections of
the root with the grid of chosen dimensions, for different grid positions
(angle and offset). Finally, the program implements the Laplace approximation to
estimate the root length (see accompanying preprint Stosic, B., "Monte
Carlo estimate of error of the line intersect method", submitted to
Journal of Ecology, 2016.), and then mean diameter and volume. The results of
multiple Monte Carlo runs are stored into an ASCII file for posterior analysis.<br>
