Asconio, il ius adipiscendi civitatem Romanam per magistratum e le ceterae Latinae coloniae

The author devotes himself to the identification of the ceterae Latinae coloniae, that are referred to by Asconius (Pis. 3.10-11 Cl.) as colonies having the ius adipiscendi civitatem Romanam per magistratum, additional to those established by Pompey Strabo in 89 B.C. in Cisalpine Gaul. Several possible identifications of Asconius' ceterae Latinae coloniae have been advanced in the literature: Italic colonies founded from the 3rd century BC; Hispanic established from the 2nd century BC; Italic from the time of the lex repetundarum (123/122 BCE). Based on the examination of a number of sources, the author proposes a new interpretation and argues that the ceterae Latinae coloniae to which Asconius intended to refer were instead the Latin colonies founded sine novis colonis in his own time (1st century CE) in the Narbonensis and Comata Gauls.
