The dataset is named Free and Fair Election (1789 – 2021) for select countires, which records the free and fair election status of selected countries from 1789 to 2021. Based on the classification criteria of Lührmann et al. (2018) and the assessment by V-Dems experts, the variable denotes the best estimate of whether national elections were free and fair or not, with 1 indicating yes and 0 indicating no.
