Images and GIS from an Archaeological Evaluation at 43A West Street, Godmanchester, Cambridgeshire 2021

This collection comprises images and GIS data from an archaeological evaluation by Cotswold Archaeology at 43A West Street, Godmanchester, Cambridgeshire. The work was undertaken in May 2021.

A total of two trenches were excavated as part of a condition attached to planning permission for the demolition and rebuilding of the property at the Site. Archaeological interest in the Site is derived from its location outside of the West gate of the Roman town and position north of the road that would have run parallel to the modern West Street slightly further to the south. Several Romano-British period finds have been recorded from the surrounding area. Overall, the evaluation yielded largely positive results. A number of ditches, two of which possibly associated with a trackway were located within Trench 1, as well as a possible gravel surface. Pottery evidence from the finds places the archaeological features within the Romano-British period.
