<p><strong>HERMES_Δ (High-Elective Resolution Modelling Emission System – Delta)</strong> is an open-source, parallel emission processing and downscaling system designed to transform officially reported emission inventories into high-resolution, model-ready emission datasets for atmospheric chemistry and greenhouse gas simulations.</p>

<p>The system processes emission inventories typically reported in aggregated tabular formats and applies a configurable workflow that performs <strong>chemical speciation, vertical distribution, temporal disaggregation and horizontal spatial allocation</strong>. Spatial allocation is performed using vector and raster activity proxies, while temporal profiles allow the transformation of annual emissions into hourly emissions. These transformations enable the generation of emission datasets suitable for direct use in atmospheric chemistry transport models.</p>

<p>HERMES_Δ is implemented in <strong>Python</strong> and designed to run efficiently on <strong>high-performance computing (HPC) systems using MPI parallelization</strong>. All processing steps are controlled through configuration files (INI and YAML), allowing users to adapt the workflow to different emission inventories, spatial domains, sectors and modelling systems without modifying the source code.</p>

<p>The system preserves traceability between the processed emissions and the original reported inventory data, facilitating transparent and reproducible emission modelling workflows. HERMES_Δ can therefore be used as the emission processing component of research or operational air-quality modelling systems.</p>
