资源简介:
The administration of medications in intensive care units is one of the main care activities performed by nursing professionals. The integration of scientific knowledge, combined with the use of technologies such as infusion pumps, helps reduce errors and improve the quality of care. Our objective was to describe the use of an infusion pump monitoring platform in the administration of medications in adult intensive care units at a University Hospital in Bogotá, Colombia. An observational, retrospective study was conducted, collecting 35,738 records of medication administration from 5 intensive care units through the use of a monitoring platform during the year 2023. A descriptive analysis was performed using frequencies and proportions, along with simple compliance associations between medications and dosages. The results revealed adherence to the drug library (66%) during the first year of using the monitoring platform, and reported 5,589 pullback involving high-risk medications, 76% of which were related to the administration of norepinephrine, midazolam, and fentanyl. These results were consistent with other studies, which reported compliance with drug libraries ranging from 65% to 80% during the first year. Finally, the implementation of institutional monitoring programs for medication administration, through the use of technologies integrated into infusion pumps, can positively impact patient safety, reduce care-related costs, and strengthen the continuous improvement of healthcare institutions.
