A pilot activated-sludge plant treating municipal sewage was operated at solids-retention times of 3, 10 and 27 while keeping the hydraulic retention time (HRT) constant. and then operated at 8, 16 and 24 hours HRT, while the SRT remain the same. This was done to reshape the microbial community and track the fate of endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs). The percentage removal of EDC and then correlated with the abundance of bacterial genera.
