These data show the transcriptional response of a model soil bacterium Pseudomonas synxantha to a sudden hyperosmotic shock imposed by adding a high concentration of polyethylene glycol (PEG, molecular weight 8000 Da). Exponential phase cells were treated with PEG at a water potential of -2.66 MPa for 30 minutes.
