Staff Participation at Institutes of Higher Education, 1977

The survey examines staff participation at institutes of higher education, i.e. members of the technical and administrative staff and the work which is done in the Senate and in the faculties. #The project comprises: #1) Interviews with technical and administrative staff representatives of the Senate (i.e. the supreme governing body of the university) and of the faculties, and #2) A postal questionnaire survey of the members of staff which they represent. #The data material filed at the DDA comprises only the postal questionnaire survey. The data material described here is stage 2 of the postal questionnaire survey; for stage 1 of the postal questionnaire survey, see DDA-0058. #The main purpose of the data material is to describe attitudes to and knowledge of the work done in the governing bodies and attitudes to and knowledge of the Senate/faculty representatives elected by the rank and file of the technical and administrative staff. In connection with this, various issues are examined, such as: courses (what courses are needed/wanted, and the possibilities of participating in courses); relations with other groups (i.e. research staff, students); opinions of what problems technical and administrative representatives should devote most time to in the governing bodies; the (work and spare time) problems involved in being a technical and administrative representative; the question of communication between various groups at the institutes of higher education, and between technical and administrative representatives of the governing bodies and non-representatives; and, finally, whether the information given about these issues is satisfactory.
