Dynamics of associated microbiomes during algal bloom development: to see and to be seeing

The goal of the study was to assess compositional variation of phytoplankton groups and associated microbial communities in mesocosm experiment. Experimental setup consisted of mesocosm tanks with varying temperature regimes (ambient, IPCC A2 and IPCC A2+50%) with temporary stratification periods. Sampling was performed once per week for eight weeks in total at two depths: surface and bottom. Community composition was analyzed using Nanopore-based 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing and a parallel analysis with FlowCAM-based imaging flow cytometry.
