Paenibacillus sp. strain BS8-2 Genome sequencing

This BioProject presents the whole-genome sequencing of a newly isolated Paenibacillus strain capable of interacting with polystyrene surfaces, obtained from aged EPS debris in a marine coastal environment. Given the environmental persistence of polystyrene and its accumulation as marine plastic waste, this genome resource was generated to support investigations into microbial mechanisms associated with plastic colonization and degradation.The genome sequence enables the identification of genes related to oxidative metabolism, aromatic compound transformation, and stress adaptation, providing insights into microbial survival and activity on plastic substrates. This dataset contributes to expanding genomic knowledge of plastic-associated bacteria and offers foundational data for developing biologically driven strategies for plastic waste mitigation.
