AOM/DSS model of colitis associated cancer in immunocompetent gnotobiotic mice harboring the altered Schaedler flora

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a common type of cancer in humans, with individuals with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) are at a greater risk of developing CRC. Both IBD and CRC are associated with dysbiosis of the gastrointestinal (GI) microbiota. Conventional mice harbor hundreds of species of bacteria in their GI tract, making associations between bacterial taxa and host functions difficult. Consequently, we have used immunocompetent gnotobiotic mice harboring the Altered Schaedler Flora (ASF) to more precisely evaluate how the GI microbiota respond in an AOM-DSS mouse model of colitis associated cancer.
