Transcriptional response to key carbohydrates in the archaeal halophile Halogeometricum borinquense

In this study we investigate the transcriptional response of the model archaeal halophile, Halogeometricum borinquense, to the availability of key carbohydrates. From our results we suggest that the outcomes of carbon catabolite repression (CCR) in haloarchaea is similar to other archaea, bacteria and eukaryotes, confirming previous studies that show similar CCR regulatory pathways across all domains of life. We also identify candidate archaeal sugar transporters and regulators for future interrogation. This study provides a initial look into key carbohydrate metabolism regulatory responses in haloarchaea.
