Genomic characterization of Umbelopsis and Paraburkholderia symbiosis

Our study aims to genomically characterize a newly identified relationship between Umbelopsis and Paraburkholderia. In contrast to other described symbioses between Mucoromycota representatives and Burkholderiaceae, this partnership seems to be a facultive one for both partners. As the generalistic and facultative symbioses usually precede the obligate and specialized ones, genomic characterization of the Umbelopsis-Paraburkholderia consortium can not only provide an insight into biology of both partners and mechanism of their interactions, but also shed light on evolution of symbiotic interactions in one of the oldest terrestrial fungi.
