Carboranes and their derivatives are extensively used in organic syntheses, medicine, nanoscale engineering, catalysis, metal recovery from radioactive waste, and a number of other areas [1]. The rotation of extremely stable icosahedral clusters of carborane molecule C2B10H12 in these plastic (rotatory) crystals has been intensively studied by various spectroscopic methods but the structural models have been only recently completed by our work at the SNBL. We propose to extend the study to its high pressure part with the aim to characterize the barocaloric effect in these potentially interesting coolers.
