Pulp, paper and cellulose production accounted for roughly 1.03 million metric tons of caustic soda consumption in Europe in 2021. Sodium hydroxide (NaOH), commonly known as lye or caustic soda, is an inorganic compound used by many industries. For instance, it is used in the manufacturing of pulp and paper, textiles, drain cleaner, soaps, detergents, and in drinking water purification.
