Dataset of the 1976–1977 Friuli Earthquake Sequence

This dataset contains the locations of earthquakes that occurred during the 1976–1977 Friuli earthquake sequence, covering the period from 6 May 1976 to 6 May 1977. It includes 1,295 earthquakes compiled by integrating information from multiple historical sources.A total of 749 events originate from the OGS catalogue (OGS, 1978), complemented by information extracted from the seismological bulletins of the Trieste station, while 1,250 events are included in the catalogue of Rebez et al. (2018). 704 earthquakes are common to both sources. The catalogue has been harmonized to provide a consistent set of hypocentral parameters and magnitude information.The dataset reports three local magnitude estimates: ML_ts (573 events): Wood–Anderson local magnitude computed using the formulation of Finetti and Morelli (1972) and corrected according to Sandron et al. (2015). MD (668 events): duration magnitude computed following Rebez et al. (1984) and corrected according to Sandron et al. (2015). ML_xx (270 events): local magnitude determined by other seismic agencies. A reference local magnitude (M_ref) is provided for 1,249 events. The fields N_78, Year_78, Mo_78, Da_78, Ho_78, M_78, SS_78, Lat_78, and Lon_78 correspond to the original earthquake parameters reported in the OGS (1978) catalogue.
