We applied Illumina sequencing to identify microRNAs (miRNAs) and piwi-interacting small RNAs (piRNAs) in the pre- and post-gastrula chicken embryos, and simultaneously obtain a comprehensive expression profile of miRNAs at diverse developmental stages.
