The rate of self-employment in Panama is lower than the average rate in Latin America and the Caribbean. In 2019, approximately 37.37 percent of the employed population of Panama were considered self-employed, or having a job where the remuneration is directly dependent upon the profits derived from the goods and services provided. The share of self-employed people in Panama is expected to decrease by 2024.
