VPRS 12704 Confidential General Correspondence Subject Files, Alpha Numeric System

This series appears to have existed as a separate series from the Central Registry Files. It also appears that the files were originally created and maintained by the Chief Secretary's Department Under Secretary, John Dillon as his own private filing system on subjects that could be defined as sensitive. Mr Jack Johnson, who was the private secretary to Sir Arthur Rylah during Rylah's time as Chief Secretary (1955-1971), confirmed this assertion.The subject matter of each file varies greatly from information concerning National Security, such as activities of terrorist groups to culpable driving cases. In these cases it assumed that the Chief Secretary had a particular interest or concern about a particular matter (although it is not clear from the files what this interest or concern may have been).
