Marine and Coastal Habitat Layers for Regional Seas around Europe

This dataset provides baseline spatial layers of 22 marine and coastal habitats, generated for regional seas around Europe, including the Atlantic European EEZs, Mediterranean Sea Basin, Baltic Sea and part of the Black Sea within Romania, Bulgaria and Turkey EEZs. This dataset extends beyond marine regions into coastal areas to cover coastal ecosystems with high relevance such as beaches, estuaries, coastal lagoons or saltmarshes. Each layer corresponds to a single habitat, mapped using harmonised data sources and following a standardised classification system. The layers are provided in GeoPackage (`.gpkg`) format. This dataset was derived for supporting the calculation of the CIMPAL index (Cumulative IMPacts of invasive ALien species, Katsanevakis et al. 2016 https://doi.org/10.1111/ddi.12429).
