ClimateBasis Nuuk - Snow - Snow pit stratigraphy - manual measurement

Snow pit stratigraphy observed at the annual snow surveys taking place in the end of the snow season in late winter (app. April). Logging of the stratigraphy includes description of snow grain size, grain shape and hardness throughout the profile. Coordinates of the specific snow pits are given in latitude and longitude in the datafile. Description of the snow pit profiles' snow densities and temperatures are presented in Snow pit density - manual measurement (kg m-3) and Snow pit temperature - manual measurement (°C), respectively. The snow survey in Kobbefjord has been carried out annually in late winter since 2008. Please contact the ClimateBasis Nuuk manager for detailed snow survey reports. Snow:Snow ClimateBasis Nuuk:The ClimateBasis programme monitors climate and hydrology in Zackenberg, Kobbefjord and Disko (Qeqertarsuaq) and is run by Asiaq - Greenland Survey. The collected data build base-line information on climate variability and trends for all the other sub-programmes within GEM and serve as a trustworthy foundation for adaptation strategies for the Greenlandic society. The stations are embedded in Asiaq’s extensive climate and hydrology monitoring network. Furthermore, the run-off data is delivered to the World Hydrological Cycle Observing System (WHYCOS) and the Global Runoff Data Centre (GRDC) networks.
