Longitudinal multi-omic dynamics in hospitalized COVID-19 patients based on disease severity

The goal of this study was to characterize the longitudinal dynamics of serological biomarkers (cytokines, fatty acids, bile acids) and the microbiome of rectal and nasal swabs in hospitalized COVID-19 patients from the Sacco Hospital in Milan, Italy. Our primary aim was to understand how tracking these biomarkers over time distinguishes COVID-19 patients with moderate, severe, or critical illness and to gain mechanistic insights into what drives outcomes in COVID-19.
