Background: Cancer is a worldwide epidemiological reality, with an increase in its incidence. The healthcare system is tending to reduce time of hospitalization by promoting outpatients. This research focuses on how patients perceive their welcome in outpatient oncological, in relation to the place of care and waiting time. Method: Semi-structured interviews and mind mapping were undertaken with 29 patients of 60 and 75 with lung or pancreatic cancer, undergoing intravenous chemotherapy in the Rouen University outpatient. Thematic Analysis was undertaken. Results: The results show that patients are satisfied with the care and welcome they receive from their healthcare professionals. They emphasize the priority of human relations over the material environment. Patients mention becoming more aware of their illness when arriving, this having an emotional impact on them. The welcome area is perceived as a liminal space. The waiting area is defined as a therapeutic landscape. Conclusion: This research shows the importance of the care relationship in an outpatient setting. Patients need to be in a pleasant environment and the opportunity to isolate themselves. To continue this research, a multi-stage study of patient care is needed to explore how patients' experiences of the environment evolve over the course of their treatment.
