Policy Ideology Estimates for Canadian Electoral Districts, Municipalities, and 2019 Canadian Election Study Respondents

This repository contains ideology estimates from 2019 Canadian Election Study data for all federal electoral districts, all 2019 CES respondents, and the 250 largest municipalities in Canada. For more detail on our data and measurement approach, see Jack Lucas and David A. Armstrong II, \"Policy Ideology and Local Ideological Representation in Canada,\" Canadian Journal of Political Science. 1. csd_out.dta and fed_out.dta. These are the aggregate ideology estimates for municipalities (csd_out) and federal electoral districts (fed_out). We provide census identifier codes and names, along with the estimated ideology score (median) and 95% probability intervals (lower, upper). 2. individual.dta. This file is for researchers who wish to use our estimates in individual-level analysis. The file includes the CES response ID variable, allowing for a simple merge back in to the main 2019 Canadian Election Study dataset. We provide the mean and standard deviation of each individual's ideology (idmean, idsd) along with 95% probability intervals (idupper, idlower).
