Can potato cropping be made regenerative? Cover crops and dead organic mulch support soil microbial activity.

This dataset contains the results of microbial biomass carbon and nitrogen, basal respiration and fungal ergosterol which were measured and analyzed during 2019 and 2023 at the experimental farm of Kassel University in Neu-Eichenberg, Hesse, Germany. Three experiments were conducted to investigate the effects of cover crop type prior to potato cropping and the application of dead organic mulch to potatoes on soil microbial indices. Soil samples were collected at multiple time points during the course of the experiments to observe the temporal dynamics of soil microbial indices.
