Mechanisms of navigation are not uniform across bat species. Old-World fruit bats (Pteropodidae), for example, do not use laryngeal echolocation, but have developed eyes and rely on vision to navigate; while insectivorous bats rely on laryngeal echolocation and have less developed eyes. An exception is the Emballonuroidea bat, which is capable of laryngeal echolocation, but prefers to use vision for navigation and has normal eyes. we carried out research on the potential genetic basis of this divergence in potential by utilizing RNA-seq.
