Neotropical Networks Project

In situ biodiversity monitoring data are essential to track progress toward international conservation goals. However, such monitoring initiatives are unevenly distributed worldwide, with a bias toward temperate, developed regions. Information on monitoring networks in the Neotropical region is scattered and difficult to access. We aim to create a catalog of monitoring initiatives as a data paper and accompanying website. For this project, a "biodiversity monitoring network" is any initiative that collects time-series biodiversity data at multiple sites using standardized protocols, typically coordinated by a central administration. We focus on terrestrial, freshwater, and marine networks across the Neotropics (Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Mexico).
